Swedish Building Research on the World Wide Web, SWEBU
Goal/Purpose:
Modern IT may today be used to build up systems that make
information easily globally available with user adopted interfaces. At the same time
new tools can be designed to supply the systems with information and the
administrative handling of it.
The project aims at:
- making building research results and overviews on ongoing research
available on the World Wide Web
- introduce a virtual meeting place for exchange of building research
information
Relevance:
SWEBU will
- provide efficient solutions for use and maintenance of building research information
- introduce new services as an efficient personal communication platform
- make research broadly available and open for feed-back
- form basis for system development in globally networked operating systems
- offer efficient in-built help functions (e.g. in the form hypertext)
Novelty:
Besides applying front end research
in practice the embryo
for a research knowledge node will be created to enhance
communication between interested parties and provide
knowledge filtering. Also a physically distributed knowledge source will
be created where much of the knowledge augmentation takes place
near the originators.
Methodology:
The following areas will be studied:
- fundamental information structure
- adapted multimedial interface in WWW environment
- links to existing databases
- knowledge filtering mechanisms
- possible futher development
- maintenance, operation and security issues
Interviews with users will form the basis for the system
development. Continous interaction with users through a demonstrator
will be done. Reference and support is given through the
K3-project.
Results:
The results will be documented in three ways
- through the system itself
- as a research report
- as a layman report of the development procedure
