COOperation and COMmunication in the building process - COOCOM1

Goal/Purpose:

The COOCOM project is a project to study how facility management can be performed better with the aid of information technology. The acronym COOCOM stands for Cooperation and Communication. The project focuses mainly on two stages in the building process: Early design and facility management. The early design stages come into play because early decisions are very influential on the facility management stage. The project's goals can be put briefly as in the following:

Relevance:

Introduction of the CSCW and efficient knowledge handling to improve maintenance documents and activities. The project introduces new competence and technique at the participating companies especially to enforce customer contacts through advanced IT.

Novelty:

The COOCOM project is to be regarded as a pre-project that is sweeping over large areas, suggesting future directions of research. The project also covers both theoretical issues about e.g CSCW and practical questions as ISDN communication in practice. Practical set-ups with persons playing their real roles in the building process made.

Methodology:

Demonstrator development. Qualitative studies of IT-supported group behavior.

Results:

The project is reported in report (Modin, 1995) and articles (Christiansson, 1995a) and (Christiansson, 1994a). The project is aimed to continue in COOCOM2 with start at autumn 1995.
